We are excited to present to you our Motivational Blogger of the Week, Harneet Khurana!

She stays at home by choice, and is constantly trying to explore the new facets of this amazing life. She answered 10 questions we gave her with at least one or two paragraphs, and expounded the answers as long as she wanted.

What is your definition of success?

Growing up, my family went through a lot of problems. My parents struggled in their marital life and we always had financial problems. So, from the very beginning, my idea of success was based on MONEY.

I always thought to have loads of money was what Success is all about. But, as I grew, I realized that money and fame is temporary. What stays with us is learning’s we take along the journey of Life. We win and we lose, but it’s important to always be ready for another day. Never lose hope. That is the true meaning of success.

What do you fear the most?

Since I faced a lot of turmoil as a child, watching my parents fight all the time, I always feared losing my loved ones. This experience left me bitter and alone for many years. Thankfully, God blessed me with a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children. I try my best to be a wife and mother so that none of the situations I faced would be faced by my children or by my family

What qualities do you admire in others?

I like people who are down to earth. People who are humble despite having success. Also, people who have a positive outlook on life. The people who look for solutions rather than just who crib and complain always come first in my list. It’s important that you surround yourself with people who bring out the best in you.

What area of life makes you feel the best?

My life has changed completely since I got married. Being positive and having an open mind to challenges helps us to grow as an individual. I am a different person altogether compared to what I was 10 years earlier. I am enjoying every facet as it is.

Is there anything you can’t let go, but you know you should?

I let go of a lot of things in my life – like being bitter and being alone. I decided that I don’t want to ruin my life and want to forge ahead with new hopes. Now, I let go of anything – whether that’s a situation or a person if I feel that person is a hindrance and does not serve a purpose in my life.

What life experience changed the way you see and define life?

Deciding to marry the man of my dreams was a huge step for me. We had an inter-religion marriage and it’s a huge deal in India, especially with my family. I got married in 2008 and my family has still have not come to terms with it. Being separate, that struggle changed my perspective to life and I am thankful it did. I am a different and a better person that I was.

When life pushes you over, how do you react?

I tend to take a step back and rethink my situation. I assess the situation and think what approach will work best and how – and then take steps accordingly. Life is meant to be challenging, otherwise, we will not learn new things. If we are cocooned all our lives and do not encounter different situations, we will never know what’s or how to deal with any situation. Learning various life skills is very important.

Who/what motivates you the most?

There was a time when I used to look around me for motivation. Gradually, I understood that if I can’t motivate myself, no one else can. I am my biggest motivation. If I can’t motivate myself, sadly, no big speech from someone else will motivate me from within.

What qualities do you have that others should possess?

I think ability to change as per the situation is my biggest and the best quality which I think everyone should possess. It’s very important that we adapt ourselves as per the situation we are in. I have seen many people struggling in marriages or parenting just because of this reason.

What words of wisdom would you share to our readers/community?

Challenges are a part and parcel of life. No one has a perfect life; everybody has their share of problems in some way or another. Some of us just know how to deal with the problems in a perfect way. This is a quote I read on Google and it’s inspired me many times. As I mentioned earlier – we can either sit or complain or we can take charge of the situation and look for a solution.

Being able to let go of people who no longer bring out the best in you and surrounding yourself with people who do, is great advice.

  3. Herlina Kwee

Love your values and outlook in life. The Western values money and materialism so much as their measure of success. Like you said, they are temporary. We can’t bring any of it to the grave. What matters most at the end of our lives is the love that we share to the people around us.

I’m in total agreement that surrounding ourselves with positive people who bring out the best in us is of utmost importance. Negative people, aka emotional vampires, only suck the life right out of us and then they go on their way feeling better. As far as adapting to our current situation so we can find the best solution? She hit the nail on the head. Great post!

  18. Crisly Zerrudo

  20. Fantabulous40s

Very encouraging read. Despite her setbacks coming from a dysfunctional family she was a able to look beyond that and find happiness. Many times people get discouraged by the life their parents lived as a married couple and shy away from love and relationships. I’m glad she was able to look beyond that and find the man of her dreams even if her parents did not agree.
